Thursday Thirteen: Ways I Have Been Keeping Myself Busy

Ciao a tutti! Hi, everybody! I hope you've all been well and happy. I'm betting that most of you have been busy, too - just like me! So, let's jump on in and see how I've been passing time, eh?

Thirteen Ways I Have Been Keeping Myself Busy

1) First and foremost, the holidays were a big factor in keeping me busy - and I'd wager they kept most of you busy, too! The season was unusually warm in this part of Italy, which was a bit of a disappointment, but I enjoyed it all the same.
2) Another thing which kept me busy was revising the English translation of a popular Italian-language YA Fantasy novel by a local writer here in Reggio Emilia. Actually, that's still keeping me busy, but the work should be wrapped up soon if all goes according to schedule. (I'll share more details when the book is closer to release, of course.)
3) I've also been doing some work on None So Blind, the second prequel novella to Ask Me if I'm Happy. Alas, this project has been slow to develop - but I promise, it's on the way!!!

4) I've also been revamping the covers of my novels for a somewhat more "uniform" look, as I'm collecting Emily and Davide's stories into a proper series. The covers above are the "works in progress" at the moment.
5) A little cleaning and straightening of my workspace kept me busy, as did rearranging the furniture in my office. Nothing dramatic, no, but it freshened the place up a bit. Yay!
Picture
6) Night-time visits to the city center for a number of different reasons kept me busier than usual, over the last few months.
7) As I mentioned last week, I did another voice-over job for a local company. I enjoy that sort of thing a great deal, and the person I worked with was fun to work/hang out with. I hope to work with them again, soon.

Part of the cycling path that runs along the Crostolo torrente - this is just before the highest elevation on the ride - a.k.a., my halfway point.
8) Riding my bike kept me busy while it was warmer outside (up until I crashed right before the rainy season kicked in). I've been on the stationary bike since mid-November, and am looking forward to getting out on the road again.
9) I've kept busy reading, too. I especially enjoyed Stephen King's Doctor Sleep and Joe Hill's NOS4A2.
10) Visits with family kept me pretty busy, as did visits with a friend who came back to Italy for just over a week at New Year's.

11) A trip to Montebelluna, near Treviso, with the hubby to visit other friends kept me pretty busy, too, if only for an all-too-brief weekend.

12) The Doodlebug always keeps me busy - to say the least!

The plastic on the bed was to protect it from the paint, of course. We're not the "Plastic on the Furniture" kind of people.
13) And finally, repainting the guest room - and then rearranging the furniture - certainly kept us busy, at least for a couple of days.

And there you have them, Thirteen Ways I Have Been Keeping Myself Busy.

Do we have any in common? Let me know in the comments!

Oh, yes, I know what you're expecting now.

Did you really think I'd forget?

Thursday Thirteen: Random Facts About Me

Ciao a tutti! Hi, everybody! I'm back (for now) for another thrilling edition of the Thursday Thirteen!

Yes, it's a topic I've done before, but I was tagged on Facebook for one of those memes that go around every so often, and I thought it'd be an amusing (and generally positive) way to post again.

So, please allow me to share with you:

13 Random Facts About Me!

1) I took photography classes for three years when I was in high school. People who have visited this site before know I love photography, so it won't surprise them to know I've been a fan of photographic work since I was in my early teens.

One of the first shots I took with my first digital camera - the skyline view from my friend's apartment in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
2) I always enjoyed riding my bike when I was a kid, but my love for professional cycling has its roots in watching the Tour de France with my cousin, Dustin, when we were both visiting our fathers in Ashland, KY in the summer of 1987.
Picture
My love for cycling reignited in 2006 when the Giro d'Italia passed through Reggio Emilia.
3) As I said on FB: Samuele Bersani is still my favorite singer.

I mean, seriously, look at him! His voice is lovely, too.
4) In Italy, as a native speaker of English, I have done the occasional voice-over job, mostly for industrial videos. The most recent one I've done is for a video about Reggio Emilia.
5) I cried when my husband bought me my first-ever wool "dress" coat. I felt guilty because - with the exchange rate at the time - it cost more than any other article of clothing I've ever owned. It's still one of my favorite articles of clothing, though I rarely get to wear it - it's seldom cold enough now!
Me in my pricey coat.
Italian-made, baby!
6) I've had two celebrity encounters via Twitter. One with Fabian Cancellara (Swiss cyclist), and one with Luca Argentero (Italian actor).
Cancellara confirmation
I won't lie - I squealed like a schoolgirl.

I sent the book to him, of course. Might as well give it a shot, right? :)
7) On a more personal note, in the last year, I've lost 28 pounds. I like to say I've finally lost my kummerspeck - which is German for "grief bacon" - gained during a turbulent and painful period from 2009-2011.
8) In case you haven't noticed, I tend to "over-share". Sorry!
9) I scream and run away from bees. Just ask my hubby.
10) On a similar tangent - wasps make me physically ill. If I see a nest, or a number of wasps in a particular area, my heart starts pounding until I'm ready to throw up. I start shaking all over, too.
11) I really enjoy designing the covers for my books, for better or worse. I enjoy working with graphics and trying to capture the mood of the story as best I can. I've been known to design the cover before finishing the story - if not before I begin writing it in the first place. It helps me to "see" the final product more clearly in my head, most of the time.
12) I wrote an entire book inspired by the music of Jarvis Cocker and Pulp. I need to revise it (heavily) before it would be a viable, publishable entity, but I hope to do that one day.
13) I call my mother in the US at the same time of day, almost every single weekday. Thank goodness for Skype!

And that's it for today's 13 Random Facts About Me!

I hope you've found them somewhat entertaining.

If not, I apologize, and I will attempt to better in the future.

In the meantime, I offer this to you in hopes of making reparations:
