Thursday Thirteen: 13 Things Which Cheer Me Up

Ciao a tutti! Happy Thanksgiving! And yes, that'll be the only mention of the holiday you'll get from me. (I'm such a rebel, yes?) Anyway, the reason I'm not mentioning it is because I'm not in the US for the holiday anyway, and I'm not one of those Americans who desperately tries to recreate the US in Italy. The things I'm missing can't really be replicated, y'see.

However, being away from home does make me a little homesick at times - especially at this time of year - so I thought I'd share with you:

Thirteen Things Which Cheer Me Up When I'm Down

Picture
1) Stationery. I can't explain it, but buying new stationery cheers me up.

2) My kitty, Sophie, nearly always cheers me up when I'm feeling down. This video is from a day or two after the hubby and I adopted her. The squeaking sound is from her stuffed-up nose. She had a terrible cold when we adopted her. (She's feeling much better, now.)
Picture
If you get it, share it in the comments, please! ;)
3) Goofy jokes cheer me up.

4) Watching cycling videos frequently cheers me up. This video (a longer version of this descent is also worth watching) brings back memories of my personal "discovery" of Fabian Cancellara - and the inspiration for 27 Stages.
Picture
5) Being cozy in my blanket with sleeves cheers me up!

6) Snuggling in my blanket with a good book cheers me up even more.

Picture
7) My hubby always cheers me up when he knows I'm down.

8) If I watch this, especially from about 1:40 in, I'm cheered up instantly.
Picture
9) A good snowfall? That'll cheer me up!

10) This cheers me up too - but it's not for everyone - some "strong" language in it...
Picture
11) Cake? That'll cheer me up!

Picture
Richard Pierce - author of "Dead Men" - with his copy of Ask Me...!
12) Knowing a dear friend has enjoyed my work? Definitely something which cheers me up! (And when they're a fantastic writer, too? Even more so!)

13) And finally... When I hit a great writing groove, and the words seem to simply flow through me, as opposed to being something I'm creating. That cheers me up, big-time!

So, there you have them: 13 Things Which Cheer Me Up When I'm Down.

Do we have any of them in common?

I know some of them have got to be pretty universal.

Some of them I know are just me.

And others...?
Picture
Well, they'll always make me smile.
Ciao for now!

What a cherry list. I wish we had that QI program here. It would be nice, for a change, to see some witty & intellectual banter, some improvised non-agressive or dismissive comedy that isn't about body parts or unsatisfying interpersonal relationships.

Iused to ride a bike. I remember that coasting down hills was always exciting. It's kinda sad, though, that nowadays I'm pretty much relegated to watching...

Why, thanks, Ron! If you can hook up your computer to your television, you can watch entire episodes of QI that way via YouTube. That's how I continued watching it after my trips to the UK. (I have a huge crush on Stephen Fry, and will stop at nothing to watch him on TV.)

For me, watching cycling on TV can be remarkably exciting - a good sprint finish will get my heart pumping hard, let me tell you! :)

Love the photo of your proud friend w/your book! My cats are loyal, loving companions, too, and I must remember to be (dare I say it here?) thankful for them. And I know what you mean about stationery. For some reason, new office supplies life my spirits.

Richard is a great guy - and he's been one of my supporters since my journey to publication began. I love him.

My cat's not quite loyal (more of an opportunist), but I'm thankful for her presence in our lives.

There's just nothing quite like a fresh pad of paper and a brand-new pen to get my creativity jump-started!

Kim, Kim, Kim,

So surprised to see myself on this list, and very humbled to be there. Thank you so much.

Big hugs to you and Alessandro.

What a great list, Kimberly. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoys buying stationery. LOL. That cheers me up too. :) Happy Thursday!

A new book to read always cheers me up when I'm down. Can't say stationary does it for me, but I can see how it would work for someone else. LOL!
And I don't get the joke, but then it's early and I haven't had enough coffee yet. LOL!

Yay! for books! I'm basically addicted to stationery, truth be told. I'm glad you can see why, though.

It's a toughie, that joke, but once you get it, you see it every time. Heh.

I've never heard that song - does he actually use that phrase? I'll have to look for it! LOL!

I am with you all the way on the stationary, although if you look in my closet at all of the blank notebooks and journals I must have gone through a period when I needed *a lot * of cheering up! But I love the sight of a new (and blank) writing papers.

Well, perhaps that just meant that you enjoyed the aesthetics of them. Sometimes I buy stationery just because I think it's pretty. :)

Lovely list! We definitely have the stationery, book snuggling and writing pick-me-ups in common. :)

So much happiness. You had me rolling on the floor with #8. I'd love to be clued in on #3 and #13 is my favorite.

I sure hope you didn't hurt yourself laughing at number eight! ;)

I'll reveal the answer for number three next week - I promise!

And I'm hoping to hit more grooves like what I've described in number thirteen - here's hoping next week is full of them! :)
